New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) set to held on April 6 is set to be shifted from Kolkata. The match which was supposed to be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will now be held in Guwahati due to security concerns, it has been announced. The cash-rich league is slated to begin on March 22, Saturday.

The IPL has been forced shift the fixture after Kolkata police expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the contest due to ‘Ram Navami’ celebrations in the city on the day. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the development to news agency PTI on Thursday. ‘We have informed the BCCI to reschedule the match, but there is no scope for rescheduling the game in the city later and I’m now hearing that it’s going to be shifted to Guwahati,’ President Ganguly told.

Over 20000 processions to be held

According to the report, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari confirmed that over 20000 processions are being organised across West Bengal to celebrate the festival. The clash between KKR and LSG was expected to draw a lot of spectators to one of the biggest stadiums to the country, with both the franchises boasting strong local support. IPL is yet to give an official statement for the same.

During the last season of the IPL as well, a game between KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) had to be rescheduled due to the lack of security on Ram Navami. The CAB president further said that he had several rounds of talks with the Kolkata Police and they said that they won’t be able to provide enough security on that day. He also said that if there is no police protection, managing a crowd of almost 65000 people will be impossible.
