New Delhi: Passengers who are going to book train tickets starting on November 1 will notice a change, a big one that will affect the travel schedule. From the above-mentioned date, while booking train tickets in the Indian Railways, the advance reservation period (ARP) has been reduced from 120 days to 60 days.

It means that if anyone is going to book tickets three months in advance, the person will not be able to do so. However, according to reports, those who have already booked tickets in advance beyond the 60-day period will not be affected. Why did IRCTC take this decision?

According to reports, several factors played a role behind the Indian Railways reducing the reservation period which booking tickets in IRCTC from 120 days to 60 days. One reason was reportedly to thwart the frauds who would exploit the long reservation window to make unfair gains. Also, it has been reportedly done so that people can plan their itineraries accurately.

It will enable the passengers to go for quick and spontaneous travel plans and the cancellation of tickets will be reduced. Moreover, the move took into factor passengers who did not turn up on the date of the journey and was done for a smoother passenger flow. Reportedly, every year, as many as 35 crore people travel by train in India.

How to book tickets in IRCTC?

In order to book tickets in IRCTC, first you have to log in to your IRCTC account. There, you have to enter the destination and the boarding station and fill out all the details including the date of the journey. You will have to select the train, and the coach you want to travel in and after filling in all the details, you have to make the payment. One can easily book train tickets from the IRCTC website or app.

Booking Tatkal ticket

According to the rules of the tatkal ticket booking, the charges of tatkal are determined as a percentage of the fare at the rate of 10 per cent of the basic fare for class II. For all other classes, the basic fare is 30 per cent subject to a prescribed minimum and maximum.
