New Delhi: Amidst growing chorus to ban Iskcon in Bangladesh , the Iskcon TV Dhaka’s Facebook page and its sylhet website were reportedly hacked and taken down on Saturday.
The minority communities in Bangladesh have alleged the role of extremists behind the incident amid reports of atrocities against the minorities in Bangladesh.
Recently, people from Hindu community were allegedly attacked by security forces in Bangladesh after its community members demonstrated against a ‘derogatory’ post by a local trader against Hindu religion and ISKCON in the port city of Chittagong.
The incident took place in Hazari Goli on the night of November 5 after a Facebook post called for ban of Iskcon, triggering a protest.
The protests were held outside the shop of the man who allegedly wrote the post. Following the protests, the Bangladeshi law enforcement conducted a march in the area at night and allegedly attacked shops and establishments owned by Hindu community members, as per media reports.
The tension that erupted between the Hindu community and the law enforcement over the post on Iskcon also prompted the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene, urging the Mohammed Yunus-led Bangladeshi interim government to ensure the safety of Hindus in Chittagong.
The recent clash in Chittagang follows Iskcon’s, the global Hindu spiritual movement, praise for US President-elect Donald Trump for publicly condemning the atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. Notably, Iskcon India Vice-President Radharaman Das had voiced strong concerns regarding the silence of global leaders in the face of ongoing violence against Hindus.
Reacting strongly over reports of Hindus facing attacks in Bangladesh, Trump had posted on X, “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos. It would have never happened on my watch.”
