New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has warned taxpayers to be aware of online fraud. The I-T department has given 5 tips via which individuals can protect themselves from Online Scams. In a tweet posted in Social media platform X, the department has advised taxpayers to pay their taxes online through official websites only.

ITR: Tips to protect taxpayers from Online Scams

1. Ignore Unsolicited Messages and Calls

Always exercise caution when you receive messages or calls from unknown individuals promising tax refunds. The Income Tax Department advises against responding to such communications, as they could be attempts to deceive you.

2. Verify Sources Claiming to be from Income Tax Department

Be wary of unverified sources that claim to represent the Income Tax Department. Official communications from the department are usually through formal channels and can be verified through their official website or helpline numbers.

3. Safeguard Personal Information

Avoid sharing sensitive personal details such as OTPs, bank account numbers, PAN, and Aadhaar details with anyone, especially over the phone or through suspicious links. The Income Tax Department never asks for such information through insecure channels.

4. Avoid Clicking on Unverified Links

Do not click on links in emails or messages that claim to be from the Income Tax Department unless you have verified their authenticity. Such links could lead to phishing websites designed to steal your personal information.

5. Use Secure Payment Methods
