New Delhi: Rishabh Pant is all set to make his grand comeback for India in Test cricket after nearly 20 months as he has been named in the 16-man squad for the 1st Test of the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. Ahead of his Test return, Pant recently came up with a hilarious take on ‘Bazball’ during his appearance on popular YouTuber Tanmay Bhat’s show on his channel.
Pant, who is known for his swashbuckling approach in Test cricket, has enjoyed tremendous success in the longest format courtesy of his fearless strokeplay and ability to go after the bowlers. However, he has also had to face a fair share of setbacks and challenges while drawing criticism from fans for his approach.
During his appearance on the show, Tanmay asked Pant if the left-hander has ever considered playing it safe after a clip of the wicket-keeper batter smashing a bowler on his Test debut was played on the screen. Displaying his witty side, Pant came up with a hilarious response as he mentioned England’s much-talked-about ‘Bazball’ approach.
“Abhi Bazball dekh rahe ho toh maza aa rha hai. Jab mein pehle kar rha tha toh acha nahi lag rha tha kya? (You are enjoying Bazball now, but when I was doing the same before, did you not like it or what?),” Pant said. A clip of his response surfaced on social media and caught the attention of cricket fans.

‘Pantball before Bazball’
Much before England popularised Bazball under Test coach Brendon McCullum, Pant was already turning heads with his attacking style in Test cricket for India. The wicket-keeper batter enjoyed tremendous success as he scored runs in all parts of the world. Pant has Test centuries to his name in Australia, England and South Africa and is the only Indian wicket-keeper to do so.
The left-hander played an instrumental role in India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in Australia under skipper Ajinkya Rahane in 2021. Pant finished as the highest run-getter for India in the series with 274 runs from 5 innings, including a match-winning unbeaten 89 in the Gabba Test which helped India chase down 329 runs in their 2nd innings to breach Australia’s fortress in Brisbane and claim the series 2-1.
