New Delhi: Streaming platform Netflix is claiming eye-watering viewing figures for its November 15 boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. The fight ended in a unanimous win for Paul over the boxing legend.
Netflix says 108 million people worldwide watched the blockbuster fight. The figures are based on U.S. viewing tallies from analytics company TVision and Netflix’s first-party data for the rest of the world. The number comes two days after Netflix said that 60 million of its member households worldwide watched the bout, with a viewership of 65 million concurrent streams.
Before the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson bout, a title fight between women’s super lightweight champion Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano became the most-watched professional women’s sporting event ever in the U.S. The fight brought in more than 74 million viewers worldwide, with 47 million watching in the United States, according to the average minute audience from TVision.

The full event achieved 46.6 million from Friday to Sunday in Netflix’s standard metric of views and easily the biggest total number of views for a Netflix live presentation over that length of time. The big numbers came in despite a glitchy live telecast that led many viewers to complain about video and audio problems during the fight.
Most streamed sporting event ever
The Paul-Tyson fight was the most streamed sporting event ever, but it falls behind some other huge global sports telecasts. The NFL said February’s Super Bowl LVIII had a global audience of about 186 million people out of which 123.7 million are domestic viewers and FIFA claimed that more than 1 billion watched the 2022 men’s World Cup final between Argentina and France. A heavyweight fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua also claimed a nine-figure audience worldwide in 2017 with estimates of 500 million viewers.
