New Delhi: Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah came up with a great gesture for his mother after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title. After returning home from Barbados, Bumrah dedicated his T20 World Cup medal and the Player of the Tournament award to his mother Daljit. Bumrah was arguably the best bowler in the tournament and played a key role in India’s memorable triumph.
The fast bowler spearheaded India’s pace attack and delivered for the team on several occasions under pressure. Bumrah was also the architect of India’s thrilling seven-run win in the final as he finished with excellent figures of 2/18 off his 4 overs and bowled two crucial overs in death. With the Proteas requiring only 30 runs to win off the last 30 balls, Bumrah conceded only six runs in his last two overs and cleaned up Marco Jansen to turn the match in India’s favour.
Bumrah finished as the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 15 wickets from 8 matches at a stunning economy rate of 4.17 and an excellent average of 8.26. He was awarded the Player of the Tournament award for his heroics with the ball throughout the competition. As Bumrah returned home, he dedicated his award and winner’s medal to his mother.
In a picture shared by the pacer on his Instagram account, he was seen posing with his mother, who wore his T20 World Cup medal and held the Player of the Tournament award in her hand. Bumrah’s heartwarming gesture for his mother won hearts as fans lauded the pacer.
The victorious Indian team received a grand welcome back home after their delayed return from Barbados where the final was played on June 29. The Indian team arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning where they met Prime Minister Narendra Modi before flying to Mumbai. The players took part in a grand open-bus top victory parade in Mumbai before being felicitated at the Wankhede Stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah 2nd Indian to win Player of the Tournament award
Bumrah became only the second Indian player after Virat Kohli to be awarded the Player of the Tournament in a T20 World Cup. Before Bumrah, Kohli was the only Indian to have won the award twice in the 2104 and 2016 editions. Interestingly, Kohli was named the Player of the Match in the final after his brilliant knock of 76 runs helped Indi post a match-winning total against South Africa.
