New Delhi: Delhi Capitals stylish batter Jemimah Rodrigues has talked about the team missing on the chances to lift the Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy ahead of the start of the season 3. She believes the team will be able to cross the final hurdle and hold the cup with their promising hard work.
Delhi Capitals has made it to the finals of both WPL 2023 and WPL 2024 editions only to finish as the second best team on both instances. The Meg Lanning-led side lost to Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the final of the inaugural season in 2023 and followed it with another eight-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru last year.
Rodrigues, who was part of the playing XI in both those heart-breaking finals, said the team will vie to come off the setbacks and accomplish the targeted task.
“We have been very good and consistent in the last two seasons as a team. Of course, there’s this one final, which I’m sure we will cross, and get our hands on the trophy, but we have been doing the right things,” Rodrigues said in a release by DC.
“There are some days when you can’t control the outcome. We have been putting in all our hard work as the DC unit and will keep playing to win,” she added.
Jemimah Rodrigues has scored 361 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 143.82 and an average of 32.81 with the help of two half-centuries. She has batted in the middle order for the Capitals, taking over from the openers and followed by the Alice Capsey’s show. She mentioned about her practice and how the plan on developing a power-hitting game is being worked on.
“My preparation is pretty simple. Whatever I’m going to face in the match, I’ll try to bring those situations into practice, be it playing aggressively or holding the innings together from one end,” Rodrigues said.
“There’s also a lot of power-hitting because it’s T20. So I use the heavy balls which help me get my bat swing faster and gives more power,” she added.
Delhi Capitals will play their first match of the WPL 2025 season against Mumbai Indians on February 15 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
