‘Jinko medal chahiye kharid lena 15-15 rs me…’: Bajrang Punia reacts after Vinesh Phogat CAS verdict

New Delhi: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for the joint silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. She was disqualified from the women’s 50 Kg wrestling final at the Summer Games 2024 after she weighed 100 grams more than the permissible limit.

She filed a petition in the CAS for the joint silver medal in women’s 50 Kg category but her request was dismissed “The application filed by Vinesh Phogat on 7 August 2024 is dismissed,” the CAS said in its initial order.

The 2020 Olympic bronze medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia took to social media and praised Vinesh Phogat. He said that she is the pride of Hindustan and deemed her as the Kohinoor of the country. Bajrang also said that “those who want medals, can buy them for Rs 15 each”.

Vinesh had a sensational campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 and reached in the gold medal match after defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman 5-0 in the semi-finals but was disqualified due to being overweight. After her disqualification, Vinesh also announced her retirement from wrestling.

‘This is a very sad and unfortunate thing for us’: Vijender Singh

Former boxer Vijender Singh has also expressed his disappointment after the CAS verdict on Phogat’s appeal and said that he’s not happy with the decision and we are standing with Vinesh and will always support her.

“This is a very sad and unfortunate thing for us…We could have won gold in the Olympics if she had made it through the finals. We are standing with Vinesh and will always support her…This is a sad news and I am not happy with this news” Vijender said on ANI.
