New Delhi: Jon Jones proved his greatness again in the heavyweight division as he knocked out Stipe Miocic in the third round at the Madison Square Garden in New York on November 17, Sunday. Jones gave a dominating performance against Miocic and defended his heavyweight title for a second time consecutively.
The fight started with some good right jabs by Miocic but Jones snapped him with a front kick to the body. Jones landed some inside leg kicks and Miocic was trying to catch him but Jones was maintaining the distance. Jones landed some nasty elbows on Miocic at the end of the first round.
Miocic was relying on his boxing and was desperate to connect the punches. It was Jones dogging the shots of Miocic and delivering elbows regularly. Miocic was also looked on the slow side and his reflex also didn’t complement him in the fight.
In the third round, Miocic started the round aggressively but couldn’t do much in the fight as Jones was cracking Miocic with his jabs. Jones caught Miocic in the center of the cage and Miocic feinted and threw some punches but Jones ducked all of them.
Jones gave a spin kick to Miocic on his body that hurt badly and then Jones followed his strikes and knocked Miocic in the third round. After the loss, Miocic announced his retirement from the MMA. It was a great career for one of the best heavyweights in UFC history. Jones didn’t retire from UFC and stated that he’ll available for a next super fight against Tom Aspinall or Alex Pereira.
