New Delhi: Jyothi Yarraji and Animesh Kujur won their gold medal winning form even as 15 race walking records were broken at the ongoing National Games in Dehradun.
Odisha’s Kujur won the 200m gold on Tuesday for his third gold medal of the competition after 100m and 4x100m relay titles while Andhra Pradesh’s Yarraji made a 100m and 200m double.
Yarraji, 25, claimed the 200m gold with a timing of 23.35 seconds. Kujur, 21, won the 200m race with a timing of 20.58 seconds on the penultimate day of athletics competitions.
Delhi’s KM Chanda bettered her own National Games mark to win the women’s 800m gold her second of the competition after 1500m gold, clocking 2:00.82 to improve on her 2:01.58 timing in 2022.
Chanda completed a hat-trick of National Games gold medals, equalling the achievement of Yarraji (women’s 100m hurdles gold in 2022, 2023, 2025) and Maharashtra’s Tejas Shirse (men’s 110m hurdles gold in 2022, 2023, 2025).
Unprecedented
The women’s 10km race walk, making a return for the first time since 1999, provided an unusual leaderboard as all nine athletes who finished the race improved upon the previous National Games record that was set 26 years ago.
Haryana’s Ravina won gold with a timing 45.52 seconds, improving on Y Bala Devi’s 51.56 seconds mark in 1999 while all the other athletes who finished the race clocked better timings than Bala Devi’s mark.
In men’s 20km event, Services’ Servin Sebastian bagged the gold with a personal best timing of 1:21:23, breaking Gurmeet Singh’s 1:23:26 set in 2011, which mark improved upon by six competitors.

Services maintained their top spot in the standings with 54 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze for an overall haul of 97 medals.
Maharashtra also kept their hold on the second spot intact with 144 medals (41 gold, 51 silver, 52 bronze), above Karnataka (75 medals – 33 gold, 18 silver, 24 bronze), Haryana (28 gold, 40 silver, 44 bronze) and Madhya Pradesh (25 gold, 18 silver, 18 bronze).
