New Delhi: Arsenal lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday and their striker, Kai Havertz’s wife posted screenshots of the vitriol she received on social media, including threats against the couple’s unborn child. United prevailed 5-3 on penalties after the 1-1 draw after the 25-year-old forward wasted a fantastic opportunity to win the game in normal time and had United keeper Altay Bayindir save his attempt in the shootout.
After receiving two direct messages on Instagram, Sophia, the German international’s wife, shared them on her account. Arsenal are attempting to identify the perpetrators by collaborating with a specialized data business after reporting the abuse to the authorities.

After dating since 2018, the pair were married last year, with Sophia revealing her pregnancy in November. The messages that were sent to her were truly disgusting that targeted her pregnancy and her child. These are obviously the ones who were not happy after her husband, Kai Havertz’s poor performance at Emirates, but they took the matters to a whole new level by bringing his family into this.
“For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself,” she wrote on one of the screenshots of her direct message that was posted on her story.
On another she further added: “I’m not sure what to even say but please guys, be more respectful. We are better than this.”
It is believed that Arsenal assigned the data technology firm Signify the responsibility of identifying the perpetrators. The club may then be able to report the offenders to the authorities as a result of the inquiry, and Instagram will flag the accounts. PA Media is aware that Instagram deleted the offensive material because it was against its rules.
