Mumbai: Every month, Hindus celebrate Kalashtami on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon). This year, Kalashtami will be celebrated on May 30 in the month of Jyeshtha. As part of this celebration, devotees worship and fast in honour of Lord Kaal Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva. The day of Kalashtami is also considered auspicious for Tantric rituals. On this day, devotees meticulously perform the Kaal Bhairav Puja.

Kalashtami Puja Timing
According to the Hindu Panchang, Ashtami Tithi in Krishna Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha begins at 11:44 AM on May 30, 2024, and ends at 9:38 AM on May 31, 2024. According to the Udaya Tithi, Kalashtami will be observed and the fast will be observed on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Kalashtami Puja Vidhi
Kalashtami is celebrated by taking a bath early in the morning at Brahma Muhurat (early morning). Resolve to perform puja.
Make sure the place for the puja is clean and sacred. The area should be decorated with flowers, incense, and lamps.
Besides Kaal Bhairav, you can also place idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha.
Setting up a Kalash is the first step. Put Gangajal (holy water) in it, decorate it, add flowers, and top it with a swastika.
Prepare Panchamrit by mixing milk, ghee, curd, sugar, and honey. Saffron, mace, and rice should be added to it, and it should be offered to Kaal Bhairav’s idol or picture.
Light a lamp and burn incense in the temple, and place offerings for the deity. Light a four-faced lamp with mustard oil in the evening.
Fruits, Bilva leaves, red sandalwood, flowers, Panchamrit, coconut, etc., can be offered to Kaal Bhairav. Offer black gram and mustard oil as well.
Perform the aarti and chant mantras or recite the Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam to conclude the puja. Distribute the prasad to the devotees after the puja.
