Karwa Chauth Moonrise Time 2024
The moonrise time plays a crucial role in Karwa Chauth, as the fast can only be broken after women see the moon and offer Arghya (water offering). In Delhi, the moon is expected to rise at 9:10 PM. After this, women can offer prayers to the moon, look at their husbands’ faces, and finally break their fast.
The moonrise times may vary slightly in different parts of the country, so it is advised to check local timings.
Karva Chauth Vrat Katha
According to ancient scriptures, Karwa Chauth is observed on the fourth day of the Kartik month, during which Lord Ganesha is worshipped. In ancient times, there was a Brahmin named Dwij who had seven sons and a daughter named Veeravati. Veeravati was a beautiful and devoted princess, the only sister of her seven brothers. After her marriage, Veeravati observed the Karwa Chauth fast for the first time for the longevity of her husband. She refrained from food and water throughout the day, following the fast with complete devotion. However, as the day progressed, she became extremely weak from hunger and thirst. Seeing Veeravati in this condition, her brothers became worried. They felt saddened by their sister’s plight and began to persuade her to break her fast, but Veeravati insisted that she would not break her fast until the moon rose.
Veeravati’s brothers devised a plan upon seeing their sister’s condition. They used a mirror to deceitfully create a false moon behind a tree. The brothers told Veeravati that the moon had risen and urged her to break her fast upon seeing it. Veeravati, believing the false moon to be real, broke her fast and drank water. As soon as she broke her fast, she received the news that her husband had fallen seriously ill. Veeravati instantly realised that by breaking her fast without worshipping the moon and before the proper time, she had caused this calamity. She became extremely sorrowful and began to repent. Determined for her husband’s long life, Veeravati resolutely decided to observe the Karwa Chauth fast again with complete devotion. Pleased by her devotion and dedication, Goddess Parvati blessed her, and her husband recovered his health.
