Mumbai: Karwa Chauth is an important festival celebrated by Hindu married women, and this year it will take place on Sunday, October 20, 2024. This festival, deeply rooted in Hindu culture, especially in North India, is characterised by fasting and prayers for the longevity and well-being of husbands. It holds immense significance, reflecting the love, devotion, and dedication that women have for their partners.

The rituals performed during Karwa Chauth involve offering prayers to several deities, including Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya, and the Moon God. Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha
Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha is a sacred tale and a part of the puja rituals of Karwa Chauth.
Karva Chauth per Ganesh ji ki Katha
Once upon a time, there was a blind old woman who lived with her son and daughter-in-law in a state of poverty. Despite their hardships, she devoted herself to the daily worship of Lord Ganesha. Impressed by her devotion, Lord Ganesha appeared before her one day and said, “I am pleased with your worship. You may ask for any boon you desire.”
The old woman was hesitant and replied, “I don’t know how to ask or what to ask for.” Lord Ganesha advised her to consult her son and daughter-in-law about her wishes. When she asked them, her son suggested that she ask for money, while her daughter-in-law urged her to request a grandson. Sensing their self-serving motives, the old woman felt uncertain.
Seeking guidance, she turned to her neighbours, who told her, “You have little time left in this world. Instead of asking for money or a grandson, why not ask for your eyesight? That would allow you to live the rest of your life happily.” Considering their advice, the old woman thought about asking something that would benefit not only herself but also her son and daughter-in-law. The next day, Lord Ganesha returned and said, “Please tell me what you wish for. I promise to grant your request.”
With a grateful heart, the old woman responded, “O Ganraj, if you are pleased with me, please grant me nine crore rupees, good health, eternal marital bliss, the gift of sight, grandchildren, and happiness for my entire family. And ultimately, grant me salvation.”
Upon hearing her wishes, Lord Ganesha smiled and said, “Old mother, you have been quite ambitious in your requests. Nonetheless, you shall receive everything you have asked for.” With that, Lord Ganesha vanished.
“O Ganesh ji, just as you granted the old woman all her desires, may you bestow the same blessings upon everyone, including me.”
