London: Ending the reign of the Conservative Party, the Labour Party has won the UK Parliamentary Elections 2024 and taking complete responsibility, Rishi Sunak has also conceded defeat.

Impact of UK Election Results on Nation’s Relations with India

In his election manifesto, as part of the foreign policy agenda, Keir Starmer highlighted his commitment towards pursuing a ‘new strategic partnership’ with India; the PM-designate also said that he would work towards strengthening the UK-India relations. 

As part of his attempt to establish a fresh strategic partnership with India, Starmer expressed his discontent regarding Labour Party’s stance on the Kashmir issue. According to his manifesto, Keir Starmer would work towards a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

The manifesto also said that Starmer would also improve bilateral cooperation across multiple fields including education, climate change, security and technology. Keir Starmer has also acknowledged India as one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Keir Starmer on Improving Ties with Indian Diaspora in UK

In his manifesto, Keir Starmer has also spoken about improving relations with the Indians residing in United Kingdom. During one of his campaigns, the Labour Party leader denounced ‘Hinduphobia’ and spoke about celebrating Indian festivals like Holi and Diwali. 

Starmer believes that such activities would strengthen the relations between British and Indian people which is important for them to flourish.

Keir Starmer’s political party has crossed the majority mark of 326 and has witnessed a landslide victory at the elections.

Keir Starmer on Being First Labour PM in 14 Years

On being the first UK Prime Minister from the Labour Party in the last 14 years, Starmer has spoken about going by the motto ‘country first, party second.’

He further said, “A mandate like this comes with great responsibility we must restore politics to its role as public service. Change starts now.”

Who is Keir Starmer?

Starmer has served as a human rights lawyer and public prosecutor looking to focus his relentless work ethic and methodical mind on fixing the country.

Starmer was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, but never officially used the prefix ‘Sir’. With his experience as an activist, he was elected to the Parliament, representing the left-leaning seat of North London, in 2015.
