New Delhi: Former Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed the fight date of his brother and current UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Khabib is the mentor, coach, and training partner of his brother Islam. Islam has been out of action since UFC 302. He defeated Dustin Poirier via submission in his last fight.
Reportedly, he was schduele to fight at UFC 308 event but was forced to pull out of the event due to his hand injury. Now his brother Khabib revealed the fight date of his brother, that Islam will be fighting in January 2025 at the UFC 311 event. This will be the UFC’s first pay-per-view of 2025.
Khabib also shared the discussion of his team with UFC, UFC offered them a fight and they accepted and UFC will reveal the opponent of Islam at the UFC 311 event, according to Khabib.
Arman Tsarukyan will most likely be Islam’s opponent for the lightweight title. Tsarukyan fought at the UFC 300 event and defeated the former lightweight champion Charles Do Bronx. Tsarukyan and Islam also fought with each other in 2019 where Islam defeated Tsarukyan via unanimous decision.
But Islam wanted a new opponent for his title defense, he didn’t want to fight with repeated opponents. Islam hasn’t lost a fight since 2016 and has been a dominant champion in the lightweight division.
Islam is carrying the legacy of Khabib in the lightweight division. Khabib’s father also coached him. Khabib also picked Islam over Jon Jones in the pound-for-pound champion. Islam has defended his title more than Jones in the UFC.
UFC hasn’t announced any main event for the UFC 310 event in December. It will take some time for to UFC reveal any fight date for the Lightweight Champion. UFC also didn’t announce any date for the UFC’s first event of the year 2025. Islam’s return to the octagon might take some time for the UFC.
