Khalistani Extremists Attack Devotees at Canada Temple, Justin Trudeau Condemns ‘Act of Violence’

Toronto: On Sunday, Hindu devotees were attacked in Canada’s Brampton by a group of people allegedly Khalistani supporters. A video of the same went viral on social media, where a group of men can be seen thrashing people with a stick outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir.

Following this incident, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau strongly condemned the attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple, emphasised on the importance of religious freedom and asserted that every citizen has a right to practice their faith “freely and safely.”

“The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely,” Trudeau said in a post on X.

“Thank you to the Peel Regional Police for swiftly responding to protect the community and investigate this incident,” he added.

‘Red Line Crossed’: Canadian MP Chandra Arya Reacts on the Attack

Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya condemned the attack on the temple and said that a “red line has been crossed” by the Khalistani extremists in the country.

Taking to X, Arya wrote, “A red line has been crossed by Canadian Khalistani extremists today. The attack by Khalistanis on the Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how deep and brazen has Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada. I begin to feel that there is a small grain of truth in the reports that in addition to Canadian political apparatus, Khalistanis have effectively infiltrated into our law enforcement agencies.”

“No wonder that under the ‘freedom of expression’ Khalistani extremists are getting a free pass in Canada. As I have been saying for long, Hindu-Canadians, for the security and safety of our community, need to step up and assert their rights and hold politicians accountable,” he further said in the post.

‘I Will Unite Our People and End the Chaos’: Oppn Leader Pierre Poilievre Condemns Attack

Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre also condemned the attack saying, “Completely unacceptable to see violence targeting worshippers at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today.” He further wrote that he will  unite our people and end the chaos.”

The recent attacks add a string to similar incidents documented in recent years, with India and Canada’s relations deteriorating after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cited “credible allegations” against Indian government agents — including Verma and other diplomats — were linked to the death of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
