New Delhi: West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has broken Gary Sobers’ record in the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Sabina Park in Kingston on Saturday. The 32-year-old broke Sobers’ record for most consecutive Test matches for the West Indies.
His streak for the team started in 2014 and has continued for more than 10 years. Sobers has played 85 Test matches from April 1955 to April 1972. Desmond Haynes played 72 consecutive Test matches while Brian Lara played 64 and Rohan Kanhai played 61. Sir Viv Richards (61) and Courtney Walsh (53) also feature in the elite list.

Kemar Roach shines for West Indies on Day 1
In the ongoing second Test match, Kemar Roach shined for the West Indies on the opening day. Only 30 overs of the play was possible on the day one due to a wet outfield, Bangladesh scored 69 runs for the loss of two wickets. The Bangla Tigers were off to a poor start after opting to bat first and lost the early wickets of Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque Showrabh with only 10 runs on the board in the seventh over.
Roach bowled brilliantly in the first spell but Shadman Islam steadied the ship along with Shahadat Hossain for Bangladesh and stitched a 59-run partnership for the third wicket. Shadman scored an unbeaten 53 runs off 118 balls and will look to add more runs to team’s total on day 2. The West Indian team has already won the first Test by 201 runs and will look to win the two-match series. After the Test series, both teams will play three-match ODI and T20I series.
