41 Indians lost their life in a tragic fire in Kuwait. One of them was Shameer Umarudheen, an Indian from Kerala employed as a driver in Kuwait. According to reports in regional dailies, his relatives believe he may have jumped off the flat in a panic as the entire building was engulfed in smoke.
Shameer, the second son of Umarudheen and Safeena, hailed from Kollam.
Shameer had tied the knot just 2 years ago
He was married to Surumi two years ago and had been residing in Kuwait for work. His close relative, Safedu, recounted the devastating news: “We got a call around 12 PM informing about his death. From the photo we received, it is suspected that he jumped off the building. It was said that the entire building was filled with smoke following the fire outbreak. Another resident of Shooranadu, who worked with Shameer, fractured his leg and has been admitted to a hospital, we have been told. We are trying to contact the responsible persons to bring his body home.”
Shameer intended to visit home soon
Shameer’s death has sent shockwaves through his home village. He and his family initially lived in Payyakode in the Pooyapally gram panchayat before moving to Vayyankara. He had called his parents and family from Kuwait just four days before the incident and had visited home nine months ago. Relatives mentioned that he had plans to visit home again soon.
