New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe made a dream debut with Real Madrid after being announced in the starting XI of Carlos Ancelotti’s squad. Goals from Fede Valverde and Mbappe ensured Madrid’s 2-0 win over Atalanta to a record sixth UEFA Super Cup.
The 25-year-old signed a five-year contract with the La Liga and European Champions League champions, joining on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The debutant took a little time to settle alongside his teammates Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. In the second half, Mbappe doubled Los Blanco’s effort with a fierce strike against Atalanta in the 68th minute after Bellingham made a clever pass.

The French captain joined his Madrid teammates in the pre-season training last week after a quiet Euro 2024 in the summer. The Super Cup clash saw Madrid take on Europa League winners Atalanta in Warsaw, Poland. During his international duty in Euros Mbappe suffered a nose injury and made little impact for France. It seems all is behind him as he started his term playing for his dream club.
As one of the highest-paid players in the squad, Mbappe’s arrival was widely anticipated. Manager Ancelotti mentioned that while Mbappe adapted well, the striker hadn’t had much time to train in the pre-season. Ancelotti also didn’t confirm how Mbappe fits in a team alongside Rodrygo, Bellingham, Arda Guler and Vinicius or confirm who will be the first-choice penalty taker.

Speaking after the match Mbappe mentioned how “thrilled” he was to be part of Madrid and had waited a long while to don the Madrid jersey and play for the team. He further said that it was incredible to win a title on debut, and winning was what mattered to him. Mbappe comes to Madrid after a successful stint with PSG, where he made 308 appearances across all competitions, making 108 passes and scoring 256 goals which makes him the club’s highest all time goal scorer.
