New Delhi: Mumbai has unveiled the 14-foot tall idol of Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the city’s most revered Ganesha idols. Installed and worshipped with immense enthusiasm and devotion, Lalbaugcha Raja is a central figure of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Mumbai and beyond. Known for its grand size and intricate decorations, the idol is adorned with elaborate ornaments, clothing, and a majestic backdrop. Artisans and devotees spend months preparing this impressive display, which attracts massive crowds. People queue for hours to glimpse the idol and seek blessings from this “Navsacha Ganpati,” or “fulfiller of wishes.”
The festival kicks off with the unveiling of Lalbaugcha Raja at the Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal in Putlabai Chawl. This year, Ganeshotsav starts with aarti at 5 am on September 7, 2024, and continues with round-the-clock darshan until the visarjan on September 17, 2024. To cater to a global audience, organisers now offer a ‘live darshan’ through webcams and live streams. This virtual access allows devotees worldwide to join in the celebration, reflecting the spirit of devotion, unity, and festivity that marks Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai.
