The last date for updating details of Aadhaar free of charge was supposed to end on December 14, 2024, which is today (Saturday). But UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has given a six-month deadline for the same. The new deadline is June 14, 2025.
The free service will be offered at the portal myAadhaar. The declaration of the extension of deadline for free update was made on X (formerly Tweeter). UIDAI mentioned: “UIDAl extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAl has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”
Significance of Aadhaar updates
The first Aadhaar was introduced on September 29, 2010. The Unique Identification Authority of India has always encouraged Indians not only to obtain Aadhaar cards but also to update Aadhaar card information when it becomes necessary such as change of residence etc. Particularly those who got their cards more than a decade ago but have not made any changes have been urged to have a relook.
The Aadhaar has been of great help in the country, the most important being stoppage of revenue/dole leakage since all payments/accounts are linked to Aadhaar which is a unique number since these are linked to biometrics. The Aadhaar number, along with PAN, is now used in all financial transactions which can almost eliminated the chance of pilferage of money and public funds, especially with reference to government welfare schemes.
