Liverpool’s title hopes take a massive hit as Robertson sees an early red

New Delhi: This might turn out to be a massive turning point for Liverpool, as they headed into Anfield with great confidence, welcoming Fulham. However, the hosts were left shocked early into the game as Fulham’s Andreas Pereira provided the Cottagers with the lead in just the 11th minute. Following Harry Wilson’s change of play, Robinson was permitted to drive to the byline before Alexander-Arnold, who was also attempting to gain an inch of space in order to send a cross to the far post. Pereira somehow acrobatically pushed himself at the ball and volleyed home a finish high into the roof of the net, even though it appeared that no one was there to receive the delivery.

However, things were only starting to get bad for the Reds, as just moments after the goal, it was Andrew Robertson who was sent off in the 17th minute. Andreas Pereira was yet again involved there as he shifted the play to Wilson’s right, but the Liverpool full back Robertson got to the ball first, and a bad initial touch from him sent it in Alisson’s direction. This was exploited by the Fulham winger, who charged over to regain possession and then rushed to the 18-yard box, where a desperate Robertson brought him down. After a brief pause for consideration, the referee showed the Liverpool full-back the red card, and he was sent out after just 17 minutes into the game.

What now for Liverpool?

It is a rather vulnerable situation for the hosts as the way Fulham are playing tonight suggests that Liverpool already have a mountain to climb. However, Arne Slot needs to make the most out of the teen men in the field. The red card has only made matters worse for the Dutch, as this is a crucial stage of the season where anything can happen. Now Slot will need to decide, whether to wait and go slow with his goal approcah or to sit back before the half ends. Whatever be his decision, it needs to happen fast as time is money at the moment for Liverpool and Arne Slot.
