Lizelle Lee becomes first player to hit consecutive centuries in WBBL history

New Delhi: South African cricketer Lizelle Lee created history in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and became the first player to smash back-to-back centuries in the tournament. She displayed her epic form with the bat in the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers, scoring 103 runs off 59 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and four maximums.

In Hobart Hurricanes’ previous match against Perth Scorchers, Lee smashed an unbeaten 150 runs off 75 balls to set a WBBL record. Lee’s stunning knock came to a halt due to run-out against the run of play. Her sensational knock helped the Hurricanes to post 191 runs on the scoreboard, which they defended comfortably to climb to the top of the points table.

Hobart Hurricanes beat Adelaide Strikers by 28 runs

Megan Schutt removed Danielle Wyatt in the first over after Adelaide Strikers opted to bowl first. But Lee batted brilliantly with Nicola Carey and scored 46 runs in the powerplay. Lee reached to her 35-ball half-century with a six against Jemma Barsby and scored 20 runs off the next nine balls she faced. She scored her second consecutive hundred in 57 balls and got run out in the 14th over.

After Lee’s dismissal, Nicola Carey scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 46 balls with the help of seven fours and one maximum while Elyse Villani also scored 23 runs to take the total to 191. Chasing the target, Smriti Mandhana stitched a 67-run partnership with Katie Mack and got the strikers off to a stunning start. Mandhana was dismissed by Lauren Smith on 51 runs in the 8th over. After her dismissal, Strikers batters struggled to score runs against Hurricanes bowlers.

Laura Wolvaardt ended the run chase by smashing three boundaries and one maximum with an unbeaten 63 off 40 balls but Hurricanes won the match by 28 runs.
