New Delhi: Intermittent fasting is an eating approach that alternates between periods of fasting and eating on a set schedule. Research suggests that intermittent fasting can help manage weight and may even prevent or reverse certain diseases. So, how does it work, and is it safe?
There are several ways to practise intermittent fasting, all involving specific time frames for eating and fasting. For example, you might eat only within an eight-hour window each day and fast for the remaining hours. Another option could be having just one meal a day, two days a week. There are various intermittent fasting schedules, so you can find one that suits your lifestyle.
With multiple methods available, US-based hormonal health coach and nutritionist Abram Anderson believes intermittent fasting can help you shed weight quickly. In fact, he recently shared a ‘realistic’ plan to lose 10 pounds (5 kg) in two weeks in a video.
Abram Anderson’s intermittent fasting tips
On his Instagram page, Abram shared, “If I needed to lose 10 pounds in two weeks, this is what I’d do as a professional health coach… to make sure, with 100 percent certainty, I’d be down 10 pounds by the end of two weeks.”

Completely eliminate hunger
Abram’s first tip is to use intermittent fasting to eliminate hunger. “The first thing I’d do is start intermittent fasting,” he explains. “It stops hunger because, when you’re not eating regularly, your body adapts and reduces hunger signals. That’s why snacking can be so damaging to weight loss goals. Eating six meals a day keeps you hungry all day. Intermittent fasting is the opposite—it lowers your hunger hormones.”
Load up on whole fruits
Abram’s second strategy for dropping 5 kg in two weeks: focus on whole fruits. “I’d make my diet around 80 percent whole fruits, eating them ‘like crazy,’” he says. “Apples, berries, and fruits with edible skins are fantastic. We’ve had clients lose up to 15 pounds (6.8 kg) in three days by eating mostly whole fruits.”
While some people try intermittent fasting to manage weight, others use it to support health conditions such as IBS, high cholesterol, or arthritis. However, intermittent fasting isn’t for everyone, so always consult your doctor before starting any new diet or fasting plan.
