Maharaja Trophy Auction: Prasidh Krishna sold for less than base price, Chethan most expensive buy

New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was picked by Mysore Warriors on Thursday (July 25) at the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 Player Auction. Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter L Revanna Chethan was the most expensive pick for the Maharaja Trophy 2024 season.

Prasidh, who has been out of action since January this year owing to a quadriceps injury, was part of the Category A list with a base price of INR 2 lakh. However, the 28-year-old pacer didn’t find any bids in the first round. Consquently, he was relegated to Category B at a base price of INR 1 lakh.

According to a Cricbuzz report, none of the six teams showed any interest for the player after he went under a surgery earlier in the year. It was only Mysore Warriors, the runners-up of last season, decided to rope in Prasidh’s services for his base price of INR 1 lakh.

L Revanna Chethan, who played for Gulbarga Mystics until last season, was the most expensive pick in the auction, getting more than eight times of his base price. He was listed in Category B with base price of INR 1 lakh but was roped in by Bengaluru Blasters for a sum of INR 8.6 lakh. The 24-year-old Karnataka player scored 309 runs in 11 innings last season at a strike rate of 150.73 to finish as the sixth-joint-highest run-getter.

Mangaluru Dragons roped in spin bowling all-rounder Shreyas Gopal for INR 7.6 lakh as the second-most expensive player this year. Krishnappa Gowtham (7.4 lakh to Mysore Warriors), Luvnith Sisodia (7.2 lakh to Gulbarga Mystics), Pravin Dubey (6.8 lakh to Gulbarga Mystics), Mohammed Taha (6.6 lakh to Hubli Tigers), Vidyadhar Patil (6.4 lakh to Mysore Warriors), Abhilash Shetty (6.3 lakh to Mangaluru Dragons), and Aneeshwar Gautam (6.2 lakh to Hubli Tigers) were the among the players to receive big bids.

Samit Dravid gets his first contract

Samit Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, received his maiden contract for the Maharaja Trophy after the Mysore Warriors obtained his services for the third edition of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20. The 18-year-old all-rounder was purchased for a sum of INR 50 lakh. He was part of the Karnataka U19 team that won the 2023-24 Cooch Behar Trophy.

The Maharaja Trophy is the official T20 tournament of the Karnataka State Cricket Association. It has been rebranded from the now-defunct Karnataka Premier League (KPL) after the tournament was marred by a series of corruption allegations.
