The Ladli Behena Scheme provides support up to Rs 1,500 per month to women aged 21-60 years of age who are identified as disadvantaged. The scheme, with an outlay of Rs 46,000 crore, was announced last month by Maharashtra finance minister Ajit Pawar.
The schemes aim to mobilise popular support ahead of the state Assembly polls after the Mahayuti alliance comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP managed to win just 17 seats out of 48 Lok Sabha seats in general elections in June.
Pawar also announced 3 free gas cylinders per month to beneficiaries under the Mukhymantri Annapurna Yojna to an eligible family of 5. Farmers also received relief in the form of a power bill waiver covering 44 lakh cultivators in Maharashtra.
