New Delhi: Manchester United are a club in crisis at the moment as things aren’t going well for them this season. They started the season with a lot of positivity and optimism around them after former manager Erik Ten Hag was given a huge budget for the transfer window. Things didn’t work out for him though and he was out the door by October and in came Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim, but things haven’t changed a lot.
For the first time in the Premier League, the club sat outside the top half of the table on Christmas, piling more misery on them. They’ve only won one of their last five games and have been on a losing streak since winning the Manchester derby. Amorim, who had been on a 100% winning streak at Sporting this season, has already lost five of his first 10 games as Manchester United manager and has claimed that his job isn’t safe ahead of the match against Newcastle.

However, former Manchester United star and Amorim’s countryman, Cristiano Ronaldo has come out in support of the manager. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Ronaldo stated that the problems at Manchester United are not down to the manager and that the problems remain the same under different managers. He said, “I said this one and a half years ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches.”
He even used an analogy to explain how there are bigger problems around the club rather than it being a problem with any of the coaches. “Tt’s like an aquarium. If you have the fish inside and he’s sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium they will be sick again.” Even in the past, the Portuguese international has been critical of United’s ownership and has seemingly hit out at them once again.
Cristiano Ronaldo plans to become a club owner

“If I will be the owner of the club I will make the things clear and change what I think is bad there.”

The other big thing Ronaldo mentioned was his plans after retirement. Even at the age of 39, he’s still going strong and banging in the goals for fun in Saudi Arabia while playing for Al Nassr. However, it’s clear to everyone that the Portuguese superstar will not always be on the playing field and that he is nearing towards the end of his glorious career. Fans haven often speculated what he will do once he hangs up his playing boots and Ronaldo has seemingly answered that question.
He hinted at the ownership of a big club in the future, stating, “I’m not a coach. I’m never going to be a coach, president of the club? No. Maybe owner of the club. It will depend on the moment, the right opportunities.” While he did not mention which clubs would he be interested in owning, he insinuated that Manchester United might also be one of the options, stating, “If I will be the owner of the club, I will make things clear and adjust what I think is bad there.”
He was present at the ceremony in Dubai for the Globe Soccer Awards 2024 where he was bestowed with yet another award. The Al Nassr forward was anointed the Best Middle East Player of 2024 after a strong year in Saudi Arabia. While his side failed to win the title in the 2023/24 season, Ronaldo had a fantastic season, scoring 50 goals for his club and has started this season on fire as well and already has 10 goals in 12 appearances in the league.
