Manchester United take next steps towards plans for their new stadium

New Delhi: Ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe invested in Premier League club Manchester United, one of their main focus areas was the development was their iconic stadium and now it looks as if those plans are moving ahead in the correct direction. The local council of the city has agreed to work in tandem with the club to ensure that the plans to develop the ground benefit the area surrounding Old Trafford as well.

The club has also set up and deployed a task force for this plan and their main job is to explore whether it’ll be feasible for the club to redevelop the current stadium or to build a new one entirely. The task force is being chaired by Lord Sebastian Coe, a former Member of Parliament and an Olympic medalist for the country. The club has also partnered up with Trafford Council and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to ensure that these plans benefit the entire area around the stadium.

Lord Coe spoke highly of the agreement, stating that he feels that it will help completely unlock the incredibly exciting potential that this redevelopment offers. In order to act on these good intentions, the Trafford Council has included that about 5000 new homes be built in the Trafford Wharfside in their master plan. A proposal for better connectivity to Salford and the Manchester city centre is also part of the plan put forward by the council.

As part of their partnership with United, a new advisory group will be set up to guide regeneration in that area, including determining how any future stadium will fit with these plans. This advisory group will be separate from the task force which will be chaired by Lord Coe and includes Manchester United legend Gary Neville and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.

This group is expected to make a final decision on whether or not to move ahead with the £2 billion plan for a new 100,000-seater stadium by the end of this year. According to Lord Coe, this is a once-in-a-generation project which will result in the development of a world-class stadium in the city of Manchester and it would also aim to bring “broad social and economic benefits to the local area and surrounding region”.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group announced that the club are moving towards revamping their current stadium in the summer and it looks like those plans are now gaining momentum.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
