New Delhi: In a massive disappointment for Team India, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is set to be snubbed from the tour to England as per multiple media reports. Shami, who wasn’t a part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia due to injury issues, is expected to be ignored by the Indian cricket board for next month’s five-match Test series in England due to his inability to bowl longer spells.
Shami has been playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 but due to his poor form, the franchise has been preferring some other options in recent matches. As report by the Indian Express, the medical team of the Indian cricket board has informed the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee that the fast bowler is not ready to bowl full overs in a Test match, which make his chances of getting picked up less.
Shami not able to bowl longer spells?
‘Shami is bowling four overs in IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the board and selectors don’t know whether he can bowl more than 10 overs in a day. Test matches in England may demand longer spells from the pacers, and we can’t take chances,’ the paper quoted a source as saying.
Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj in fray to replace Shami?
If the veteran pacer is deemed unfit for selection, the report claims that left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is most likely to earn his maiden Test call-up for the series. Another name in form of right-arm bowler Anshul Kamboj has come up as he also is in the fray to replace Shami in the Test series. Kamboj has played 74 wickets from 22 first-class games and has already been picked for the India A tour to England.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, India’s new captain and the squad for the England tour is expected to be announced.
