New Delhi: Brazil international Matheus Cunha signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers, the club stated on Saturday. The 25-year-old has scored 11 goals in his 23 Premier League appearances for Wolves this season. However, he has been linked for a while with a move away from the Molineus during the transfer period, including with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
For Wolves, Cunha has been the top scorer and the announcement came right after his goal helped his side beat Aston Villa 2-0 and move out of the relegation zone. Wolves chairman Jeff Shi noted that he had become “a leader” of the pack off the field along with his brilliant performance on-field. He went on to call him the “strongest and most impactful” player in the side, who deserved the deal.

On Saturday, it had looked like a perfect farewell for Cunha who scored the final goal in the 97th minute. In his celebration, he pointed at the Wolves crest on his Jersey and mimicked signing a contract before he signed his new deal, which will run until 2029, a few hours later. Head coach Vitor Pereira mentioned that the forward was important for the side as they tried to keep themselves alive in the competition and lauded Cunha’s “commitment” to the side.
Cunha had signed two years ago, coming on a loan from Atletico Madrid in December 2022 and particularly in these last 12 months has been one of the most important players for the side. Overall he has scored 25 times in 72 games for Wolves in the Premier League, making him the second player after Raul Jimenez to achieve the feat in the competition for the club.
Cunha’s career started with Swiss club Sion in 2017 and even played for German clubs RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin. Wolves are currently 17th after their win and Leicester City’s loss to Everton on Saturday and for now are clear by just two points from the relegation zone.
After being linked with big clubs including, Chelsea and Arsenal, Matheus Cunha has signed a four-and-a-half with Wolves, extending his stay at the club until 2029. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
