New Delhi: Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha is reportedly set to join Manchester United from Wolverhampton Wanderers next season. United have been pursuing a deal for the forward for quite some time now and are interested in securing the services of the 25-year-old, who has enjoyed a great season for Wolves, scoring 15 goals in 29 appearances for the club this season.

As per a report in Sky Sports, a deal has almost been agreed between Manchester United and Wolves for Cunha’s transfer next season. United are expected to trigger Cunha’s £62.5m release clause in his contract, which he agreed to earlier this year. While there have been no formal contacts yet between the two clubs, the formalities of the deal are expected to be agreed upon after the end of the ongoing season.

Cunha has been among the best forwards in the Premier League this season, impressing with his consistent performances for the Wolves. The Brazilian ace will significantly bolster United’s attack amid the Red Devils’ goal-scoring woes. United have struggled up front this season, with striker Rasmus Hojlund enduring a disastrous campaign.

Hojlund’s struggles have reflected in United’s results this season as they are languishing in the 16th spot on the Premier League table with just 10 wins from 39 matches. United’s 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in their last game was their 18th league defeat of the season. It also extended United’s winless runs to 8 matches in the Premier League, their worst run since the 1989-90 season.

Matheus Cunha wants to play for Manchester United

As per Sky Sports, a number of clubs, including the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa, were interested in signing Cunha, but the Brazilian ‘loves’ United and wants to play for the Red Devils. As many as five clubs were interested in signing the Brazilian, but he wants to play for Manchester United, who he believes are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Manchester United will miss out on European football next season if they fail to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final this week. However, that won’t affect Cunha as he wants to join the club irrespective of whether they can make it to the Champions League next season.

Cunha, who joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2022, has so far scored 27 goals and registered 13 assists for the club in 63 matches in the Premier League in his career so far.
