Meerut Metro unveiled: NCRTC shares key features, safety precautions and route

Meerut: The Meerut Metro train unveiled by the NCRTC will connect 13 stations at a maximum speed of 135 kmph, making it the fastest metro service in India. The train is 100 per cent made in India and is equipped with the latest interiors ensuring passenger safety and riding comfort.

NCRTC is the joint venture which operates the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System. The company had also been tasked with setting up the Meerut Metro.

Meerut Metro features and capacity

The Meerut Metro trainset is embellished with the colours green, blue and orange. Made by French coach maker Alstom in its Savli factory in Gujarat, the trainsets have an energy-efficient regenerative braking system.

The Meert Metro is ATP- and ATO-compatible. ATP denotes Automatic Train Protection while ATO denotes Automatic Train Operations.

The trainsets are equipped with an emergency communication system for passengers as well as fire extinguishers. The Meerut Metro also has alarms and talk-back systems ensuring fire safety as well as communication with the pilot centre. The trainsets are wheelchair friendly with a dedicated space for parking.

Meerut Metro Trains are equipped with push buttons to ensure energy savings. However, doors can only be opened when the train has halted at a station and the green light is turned on inside the coach. Passengers wil also press the button to enter the Meerut Metro train. Key features of the Meerut Metro include CCTV cameras, dedicated racks for luggage, USB charging points, seats equipped with grab handles, and a dynamic map displaying the live route changes.

Meerut Metro will feature both 2X2 aisle seating and longitudinal seating options. The trainsets will be fully air-conditioned. The Meerut Metro trainset will have 3 coaches capable of seating 173 passengers and carrying a total of 700 passengers, the TOI reported, citing NCRTC.
