New Delhi: Delhi Capitals’ (DC) KL Rahul was on a roll as he asserted his home dominance and took his team over the line against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. The victory was followed by an aggressive celebration from Rahul, who completed the 169-run chase with a flat six as winning runs, being unbeaten on 93 after facing 53 deliveries, hitting seven fours and six sixes.
Rahul, who has grown up batting at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, batted at a strike rate of 175.47 and made a mockery of the RCB bowling attack. The Mangaluru-born has had his cricketing training in Bengaluru and knows the Chinnaswamy ground better than anybody else – a fact that he reminded the rival team and the home crowd which was although supporting RCB but acknowledged Rahul’s impactful innings with cheers and roars of his name.
RCB had scored 163 runs in their stipulated 20 overs, which the DC chased in just 17.5 overs. Off the final delivery of the game, Rahul whipped it over the long leg boundary and then thumped his chest animatedly. Further, while shaking hands with the opposition players, he gestured with a few thumps on his chest and then to the ground, signifying that this is indeed his ground and only he would roar here.
The clips of the instance soon went viral on social media, followed by several clips in which Rahul could be seen marking a spot on the ground with his bat and then thumping it hard. A few minutes later, even the IPL uploaded a video on Rahul’s home dominance, which started with him saying, “Mera ground hai ye (This is my ground)” to his skipper Axar Patel, when he was walking towards the dressing room post-win.

RCB earns dubious distinction
With the loss, RCB earned a dubious record of registering for most losses at a home venue in the IPL. This was their 45th loss on their home turf, surpassing Delhi’s record of 44 defeats.
Most defeats at a home venue in the IPL
45 – RCB (Bengaluru, W/L: 0.977)
44 – DC (Delhi, W/L: 0.840)
38 – KKR (Kolkata, W/L: 1.394)
34 – MI (Mumbai WS, W/L: 1.55)
30 – PBKS (Mohali, W/L: 1.033)
This was RCB’s second loss of the season, and they have six points to their credit out of the five games played so far. They currently sit third on the points table, still in the top echelon. Meanwhile, DC have been a force to be reckoned with as they have won all four games played so far, earning eight points and sitting second in the table rankings. DC next play Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 13, while RCB next face Rajasthan Royals on April 13 as well.
