Coimbatore: Miscreants threw mutton pieces in front of Koniamman temple, Coimbatore, near Kottai Easwaran Temple where the car blast took place in 2022. One Mohammed Payas was secured. Police are trying to locate other people who could be involved in the act. Further police are underway. The police also probing the angle of whether it was attempt to mock BJP state president K Annamalai over his defeat in Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat, because the DMK supporters and others have been mocking Annamalai as ‘aadu’ (goat) and distributing mutton briyani as part of the celebrations after the BJP leader’s defeat in Coimbatore in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. DMK candidate Ganapathy Rajkumar defeated Coimbatore BJP candidate Annamalai by over 1 Lakh vote margin when the results were declared on June 4, 2024.
It may be recalled that BJP state president and Coimbatore Lok Sabha candidate K Annamalai offered prayers at this Arulmigu Koniamman Temple before filing his nomination for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
