The goal increases his tally as Liverpool’s highest European scorer, and he added 20 Champions League goals at Anfield. Former Manchester City player Sergio Aguero scored 23 at Etihad Stadium and Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy had 23 at Old Trafford and are the only ones who have more goals at one venue in the Champions League than Salah’s record at Anfield.
At Anfield he has been involved in 18 goals in 15 appearances this season, scoring ten times and has been one of the main reasons for Liverpool’s success this season in both Champions League and Premier League, where Salah is the highest scorer currently. He has shown great confidence in front of the goal this season making sure that missed chances are never costly and he is able to compensate with a goal in the next chance.
Reacting to the goal, Salah confessed he was “proud” of the achievement and it was more special that it had come in a winning cause. Salah has said that despite their performance, Liverpool still need to work hard and execute gameplans to end the season on high.
Apart from his performance this season, Salah’s stay at Liverpool has earned equal spotlight, with his contract expiring at the conclusion of this season. In December the Egypt forward had said a deal extending his stay with the club was still “far away”. Despite the rumours around Salah, it has taken no toll on Salah’s performance.
