New Delhi: Jorge Martin, world MotoGP champion, fractured his right hand and bones in his left foot after he suffered a crash in a pre-season testing with his new team Aprilia on Wednesday. For the most part of the testing, he was riding in a balanced manner but all of a sudden, he got thrown off his bike in the ‘highside’ crash at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.
As the crash happened, Martin landed badly on the circuit hitting his head against the track and in the process, hurt his one hand and foot. Right after the incident, the MotoGP issued a statement saying that Martin would undergo surgery in his home country of Spain keeping him out of action for quite some time. As per the statement, Martin will have to undergo surgery later this week for the fractures sustained .
The MotoGP racer will miss the rest of the three-day test and some in races in the future as well but fortunately, the initial scans have ruled out any serious injury on the head. The champion racer had won he title on a Ducati bike last season. The first round of the season is at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit from February 28 through March 2.

Aprilia CEO rules out mistake on Martin’s side
In a statement issued after the crash by Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola, he said that there was no mistake on the bike side and no mistake either on Martin’s side in regards to the crash that ended his pre-season campaign. He will certainly be in the hospital for the next few days which puts his participation in next week’s Buriram test into serious doubt. Rivola said that Martin was not on the gas when the crash took place and his tyres also were in the correct working window. He further said that they will have to wait till they get further clarity.
