Mukesh Kumar endures worst bowling record in IPL in DC vs LSG match

New Delhi: Indian pace bowler Mukesh Kumar set an unwanted bowling record while playing his first match of the IPL 2025 season for Delhi Capitals (DC) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Mukesh just bowled just a couple of runs for Capitals after captain Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Indian international ended up conceding 22 runs from his limited bowling spell at an economy of 11, although he got the big wicket of LSG opener Mithcell Marsh, who was cruising with a confident half-century (72 runs off 36 balls).

The Capitals pacer has now registered an economy rate of 10.45 after bowling in 20 IPL innings since making his debut in IPL 2023 against LSG in Lucknow. As per a report by Sportstar, Mukesh’s economy is the worst by an bowler in the tournament history (in a case where a bowler has bowled a minimum of 300 balls). Mukesh has delivered 411 balls in 21 innings.

Mukesh has gone past Punjab Kings pacer Yash Thakur, whose economy reads 10.26 followed by Kartik Tyagi (10.23).

Nevertheless, LSG posted 209 for 8 and the Capitals chased the target in a thrilling fashion in the final over thanks to the prudent batting from youngster Ashutosh Sharma (66*) as the team eked out a one-wicket win to start the campaign on a high note.

Mukesh suffered injury scare against LSG

On the third ball of the 15th over bowled by Mitchell Starc, LSG batter Nicholas Pooran hit toward deep backward square leg. Mukesh was the nearest fielder positioned at the concerned region and he ran to stop the ball. However, the Bengal bowler ended up injuring his leg. While he was down on the pitch, the pacer looked in grieve and went off the field. There is no development on the seriousness of the injury from the Capitals camp. But anything severe would be difficult for the bowler and the team management as well.

Mukesh Kumar, Delhi Capitals’ pacer, set a dubious IPL record in tournament history after bowling 411 balls across 21 innings. Despite taking the crucial wicket of Mitchell Marsh, his expensive spell (11 runs per over) contributed to LSG’s 209/8. He also suffered a leg injury during the match, adding concern to his already challenging performance.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
