New Delhi: As Team India on Sunday registered a comprehensive 280-run win in the first Test against Bangladesh, something peculiar was happening during the session and innings break on the match days. While the Men in Blue battled on the Chepauk ground, an out-of-favour India batter, who once played Tests for the same side, was acting as the host for the live broadcast of the game.
This wasn’t the only case as Abhinav Mukund, the cricketer turned TV host, was also battling personal grief and emotions while being on the camera, talking with the cricketers and the pundits. The opening batter recently lost his grandmother and reported to his new duty hours after the incident. He fought his inner battles with perfection as he delivered an impressive performance as the host of the TV broadcast and later revealed the tragedy to people on his social media.
“Less than 24 hours after my grandmother passed away, I had to go live as an anchor for the very 1st time. From cricketer to expert and now hosting the show I was nervous. But thankfully I felt at home in Chepauk and managed to sail through these 4 days and watched the local boy Ravichandran Ashwin scale newer heights and equal the late Shane Warne’s tally of 5wkt hauls,” Mukund wrote.
He went on to add that he has ticked another box in his broadcasting career by hosting the English show on JioCinema and that he is extremely thankful to Parthiv Patel, Saba Karim, and Tamim Iqbal for giving him good company throughout the first Test. “Enjoyed my first test match, I am sure my grandmother was watching over me to ensure I was calm amidst the chaos! Off to Kanpur now,” Mukund concluded.

Ashwin – the star boy
R Ashwin rose to the occasion at his home ground as he first smashed a quickfire century and went on to pick six wickets while conceding 88 runs in the second innings of the Test match, making it his 37th fifer in Tests which equalled the legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne for second-most fifers in the longest format. It is Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan topping the list as he has 67 five-wicket hauls.
Meanwhile, India will take on Bangladesh in the second and final Test match which will start in Kanpur on September 27.
