New Delhi: South Africa pacer Nandre Burger has replaced injured Indian fast bowler Sandeep Sharma in the Rajasthan Royals squad for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sandeep was ruled out of the season due to a fracture in his finger earlier in after playing 10 matches for the Royals in which he took nine wickets.
Though the Royals have been eliminated from the race to the playoffs but still they have some matches to play in the 18th edition of the league. Burger, who is a left-arm pacer, previously played six games for Rajasthan in the 2024 edition where he claimed seven wickets. IPL confirmed in a statement that Burger has joined the Royals for Rs 3.5 crore.

‘Nandre Burger, the left-arm South African pacer, has previously played for RR in the IPL 2024 and picked 7 wickets from 6 games. He joins RR for Rs 3.5 Crore,. IPL said in a statement.
Meanwhile, in a total of 12 matches played in the season so far, Rajasthan have won just 3 and faced defeat in 9 matches to bow out of the race to the playoffs. With just 6 points in their kitty, the 2008 IPL winners are placed at the ninth spot on the points table, just a place above Chennai Super Kings, which is on the 10th position.
CSK, RR and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the three teams that have been eliminated from the playoff race while the others in the list stay alive for contention. Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the two franchises occupying the first and the second place respectively with 16 points each while Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals also remain alive for qualification. Kolkata Knight Riders’ hopes were dented after their two-wicket loss against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
