New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have come together in support of the armed forces of India following the suspension of the tournament’s 2025 season on Friday. A high-stakes meeting involving the top brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) resorted to suspending the tournament temporarily for a week, a decision which came against the backdrop of heightened border tensions between India and Pakistan.
It all started with India’s retaliatory air strikes on Pakistan during the early hours of Wednesday, which were targeted at nine terrorist infrastructures, and were in response to the ghastly April 22 Pahalgam attack. Since then, Pakistan has engaged its military against India, and the two nations are currently combating on land and in the air across the northern and western regions of the country.

The IPL faced its severe impact on Thursday night when the ongoing clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala had to be halted and was subsequently abandoned midway. The reason was first attributed to a floodlight failure, but the exact picture came into light later on as the nearby areas of Jammu and Pathankot honked air raid sirens as Pakistan targeted the two North Indian cities, situated in close proximity to the picturesque town.
A complete blackout was immediately enforced by the government in several Indian cities, including Dharamsala, in a bid to thwart Pakistan’s air strike attempts, and the HPCA Stadium’s electricity supply had to be cut, due to which the light towers went off one by one. The Himachal government reportedly asked the HPCA to evacuate the crowd and the teams swiftly, as a precautionary measure.
IPL franchises stand in solidarity
Meanwhile, after all that the nation and its beloved cricket tournament have been through, the IPL franchises on Friday made social media posts to stand in support of the Indian Army that is currently going through a critical time, dealing with the Pakistan armed forces at the borders. The posts come specifically after the news of IPL 2025 getting suspended broke out, with the teams putting national interest first over any other consideration.
Courage in every step. Pride in every heartbeat. Saluting our armed forces, wrote CSK, while RR said, “With our armed forces. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. Forever. Jai Hind.” LSG said, “Nation first,” while PBKS posted a similar picture for the nation’s defense forces.
