National Bone and Joint Day: Study finds 6 in 10 people do not seek medical help for joint pain

New Delhi: A recent survey conducted by Pristyn Care, the healthcare provider found shocking data that 60 per cent of people with persistent joint pain neglect seeking medical help in India. While 32.18 per cent of people have a family history of bone and joint-related issues and 67 per cent of people have never heard about a Bone Density Test. On August 4 every year,  National Bone and Joint Day is celebrated across the country to raise awareness around bone and joint health. Similarly, to raise awareness and fill the critical gap in the bone health category, the survey is conducted by the healthcare provider.

According to the survey, only 5 out of 10 people are aware of bone and joint health problems. These findings highlight a significant disconnect between awareness and action when it comes to bone and joint health.

Over one-third population have a family history of bone health issues

Some of the major factors leading to bone issues include genetics, poor lifestyle and other health issues. According to the survey over one-third of respondents reported a family history of bone and joint-related problems, among them the most common is the genetic predisposition of these conditions. Also, 67 per cent of participants were unfamiliar with something called bone density tests. It is a crucial diagnostic tool for early detection of bone conditions like osteoporosis.

The study mostly focuses on the critical need for comprehensive public awareness campaigns to promote bone and joint health. By increasing awareness of symptoms, risk factors and available treatment options, it is hoped that it is hoped that more populations will prioritise their bone health and seek timely medical care. Further, in the Dr D.K Das, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon and Founder, Cure My Knee stated that the combination of joint pain and a significant family history of bone issues show a critical need for enhanced preventive healthcare and the fact that 60 per cent of the individuals have not taken a medical help.
