Tel Aviv: A drone that exploded in Caesarea earlier today was reportedly aimed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s private residence, according to prominent Israeli media.
The drone, however, struck an unspecified home after being intercepted by forces, meanwhile no injuries were reported after the attack.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that three drones had infiltrated Israeli airspace from Lebanon in the past hour. Two of the drones were intercepted, while one managed to hit a building in Caesarea.
Sirens were also triggered in the Glilot area, but officials have stated that there is no further threat. An investigation into the incident is underway.
Israel PM Office Confirms Attack
The Prime Minister’s Office confirms that the Israeli PM’s private residence in Caesarea was targeted in a drone attack from Lebanon earlier this morning.
In a short statement, the Israeli PMO said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara were not home at the time of the attack and that there were no injuries in the incident.
Hezbollah Intensifies Attack on Israel
The unprecedented strikes into Israel come as its war with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, a Hamas ally backed by Iran has intensified in recent weeks.
Hezbollah stated on Friday that it planned to launch a new phase of fighting by sending more guided missiles and exploding drones into Israel. The militant group’s longtime leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in late September, and Israel sent ground troops into Lebanon earlier in October.
A standoff is also ensuing between Israel and Hamas, which it’s fighting in Gaza, with both signaling resistance to ending the war after the death of Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar this week.
On Friday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Sinwar’s death was a painful loss but noted that Hamas carried on despite the killings of other Palestinian militant leaders before him.
“Hamas is alive and will stay alive,” Khamenei said.
