New Delhi: Memphis Depay netted twice and equalled the Netherlands’ goal-scoring record as the Dutch thrashed Malta 8-0 on Tuesday at the Euroborg Stadion in Groningen and registered their second successive World Cup qualifying victory.
Depay converted a penalty in the ninth minute of the match and fired another powerful shot in the 16th minute to equal Robin van Persie’s record of 50 goals for the Dutch national team. Both players achieved the tally in 102 appearances.
Netherlands skipper Van Dijk made it 3-0 in the 20th minute with a stunning shot from the edge of the area, while Xavi Simons scored the fourth goal in the 61st minute from a narrow angle after the Dutch missed a plenty of chances.
But they netted four goals in the last 16 minutes as substitute Malen scored twice in the closing minutes of the match. The Aston Villa attacker scored the fifth goal in the 74th minute after Van de Ven pulled the ball back for him.
Lang scored the sixth goal four minutes later with a clever square pass from Van de Ven. Malen scored his second goal in the 80th minute, and Ven de Ven netted the last goal and sealed the game for the Netherlands.

Senegal hand Tuchel first defeat as England manager
Thomas Tuchel suffered his first loss as England manager as Senegal made a brilliant comeback to win the match. The German coach won his first three matches as head coach and was on course to extend the unbeaten run when Harry Kane netted his 73rd goal in just seven minutes of the match.
But, Ismaila Sarr equalised for Senegal just before the half-time break, when he chased down a loose ball from Nicolas Jackson inside the box and dispatched it into the back of the net.
The Three Lions were lacking momentum as Habib Diarra scored the second goal in the 62nd minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Cheikh Sabaly sealed the match for Senegal by scoring a goal in the 93rd minute.
