New Delhi: Team India defeated Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club in Harare on Sunday, July 7 and levelled the five-match T20I series at 1-1.
The young team responded in style after Saturday’s defeat where they failed to chase down 116 and lost the match by 13 runs. But the Men in Blue made a brilliant comeback on Sunday and posted 234 runs in the 20 overs after opting to bat first.
Abhishek Sharma smashed his maiden T20I century, scoring 100 runs off 47 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with seven fours and eight sixes. He reached to his maiden century in 46 balls and it was the third-fastest century by an Indian batter after Rohit Sharma (35 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (45 balls).
Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored an unbeaten 77 runs off 47 balls with 11 boundaries and one maximum. Rinku Singh also scored an unbeaten 48 runs off 22 balls. Chasing the target of 235, Mukesh Kumar dismissed Innocent Kaia in the first over. Wessly Madhevere scored 43 runs off 39 balls but other batters failed to contribute in the run-chase. Mukesh and Avesh Khan picked up 3 wickets each. Ravi Bishnoi also took two wickets and Sundar also picked up 1 wicket.
