Kolkata: The Centre is going to introduce a FASTag-based annual pass of Rs 3,000, Union minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari has announced on a social media post. The pass will be introduced on August 15 this year. The new move will result in lower waiting times and help ease congestion at toll plazas, Gadkari said.

“This pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips, whichever is earlier,” the minister wrote. According to the post, it has been specially designed for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans etc) only and will enable seamless travel on national highways across the country.

The minister also mentioned that procuring the pass can be done on the websites of NHAI and MoRTH as well as the Highway Yatra App. “The process will be simple and easy,” mentioned the minister.

Gadkari also said that the new pass will address long standing concerns about toll plazas located within a radius of 60 km. It will also enable toll payment through a single accessible transaction.

“By reducing waiting times, reducing congestion and eliminating disputes at toll plazas, the annual pass policy is committed to a faster, smoother and better travel experience for millions of private motorists,” assured the minister.

Significantly, Nitin Gadkari is the longest serving Minister for Road Transport & Highways. He has been nurturing this sector for more than a decade now, giving shape to long-term blueprint of mobility of the Central government.
