New Delhi: Less than a year after giving birth to her daughter Bella, Belinda Bencic completed an incredible comeback to tennis by clinching the Abu Dhabi Open 2025 title after a resounding victory against American Ashlyn Krueger in the final. The 27-year-old Swiss star defeated Krueger 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the final to win her second Abu Dhabi Open title in three years with her 9-month-old daughter watching from the stands.
Bencic stunned world no.5 Elena Rybakina in the semi-final on Friday to reach her first WTA Tour final since her return from maternity leave. The Swiss ace, who gave birth to her daughter Bella in April last year, made her comeback to tennis after taking a 13-month break. Her win against Rybakina in the semi-final was her first victory against a top 5 opponent since her return to tennis.
Bencic headed into the final against Krueger as the favourite after staging an upset against Rybakina in the semi-final and lived up to the tag as she dominated the American. Bencic went down closely in the first set but staged a brilliant comeback in the second set by winning it 6-1 comfortably. She won the decisive third set 6-1 once again to win the final.
