New Delhi: Since he is born in the football hub of Bengal, perhaps it’s not a surprise to find Ahon Banerjee in the final list of 32 young kids who have selected after trials to travel to Austria for advanced training as part of News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigresses campaign.

In TV9 Network’s pan-India football talent hunt initiative, a total of 16,000 schools participated with nearly 50,000 kids registered for trials in eight scouting camps across the country.

Nearly 3,000 girls and 7,000 boys were shortlisted for advanced trials after the registration process, which was pruned to 32, who would now travel to Austria for an exposure trip.

From the ‘Mecca of Indian football’ to Austria

Hailing from Bhandarhati of Hooghly district in West Bengal, Ahon was drawn towards football from the tender age of eight years. He received encouragement from parents and grandparents to pursue his passion despite being the only child of his parents.

Currently a class eight student in an English medium school in Hooghly, Ahon’s father is a government employee while his mother is a home-maker, who undertakes private tuitions at their residence.

As is the case with any family with middle-class values and earnings, Ahon’s parents have sacrificed their pleasures for the sake of his footballing pursuit.

His parents believe Ahon has it in him to become a professional footballer in the future and getting select to travel to Austria for News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigresses campaign is the start of that journey.

Apart a countrywide campaign to choose 32 promising talents, the grand finale of News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigresses football initiative concluded at the Sudeva ground in New Delhi on Saturday, March 8.

Apart from receiving state-of-the-art training from top European coaches, the chosen 32 kids will also have the honour of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at TV9 Network’s What India Thinks Today (WITT) summit on March 28.

News9’s Indian Tigers and Tigresses football campaign has been successful in finding a promising talent from West Bengal, Ahon Banerjee, who would be part of 32 young kids flown to Austria to receive advanced football training.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
