NHRC takes suo motu cognisance in Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy, issues notices to Chief Secy & DGP

Chennai: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo Motu cognisance of the deaths due to the consumption of spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu’sKallakurichi district. issues notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Police calling for a detailed report within one week. As many as 59 people lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor at Karunapuram village on June 22 in Kallakurichi.

Over 100 people, including women, are under treatment in various hospitals, some of whom are in critical condition.Meanwhile, the death toll in Kallakurichi hooch tragedy district rose to 60 with one more person losing his life at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem on Monday, June 25, today.
